Ongoing Opportunities

√ Food Distribution for Low-Income Families in Alexandria

When Distributions are the last Saturday of the month except in November and December
Tasks Volunteers set up distribution areas at a scheduled time the day before the actual distribution. Includes setting up tables, unloading boxes of food from trucks. On day of distribution, volunteers register clients and bag groceries.

When Monday–Friday; 3-hour shifts once a week or twice a month. Drivers' schedules vary
Tasks Deliver groceries to homebound families and individuals in need

Who Drivers/loaders – Load grocery bags in vehicles and deliver food.

√ Furniture Delivery

When Weekly—Saturdays mornings (2 or 3 Sunday afternoons during the year)
Tasks Field furniture donation and request calls and emails (check phone and email messages, call individuals, set up routes – roughly 1 hour a day for a week; rotation every 8 weeks or so. Drive furniture truck (once every 6–8 weeks on a rotation). Pick up and deliver furniture (any weekend available).
Where Start at ALIVE! office starting point (First Christian Church, 2723 King Street).
Who Individuals and groups. Those seeking community service hours are welcome.

√ ALIVE! House

When Flexible
Tasks Coordinator and volunteers are needed to create and organize special and ongoing programming for the children and/or adults at ALIVE! House or in the community. Includes coordinating transportation and childcare (if needed) for event and recruiting other volunteers to assist with events. Volunteers are also needed to help with administrative and clerical tasks and facilities management.
