New Location Added to ALIVE! Food Distributions

(Alexandria, VA) – ALIVE! will add William Ramsay Recreation Center as a new location with walk-up service for food distributions. Beginning July 17, the outdoor basketball court at William Ramsay Rec Center (5650 Sanger Ave.) will be the third site for ALIVE! weekend food distributions. The other two sites are Cora Kelly Elementary School (3600 Commonwealth Ave.) and Northern Virginia Community College, Alexandria Campus (parking lot B-1 via Dawes Ave).

ALIVE! distributes bags of groceries, produce, chicken, eggs, and bread, depending on food supply chains, two Saturdays per month, including the last Saturday, from 8:30 AM – 10:30 AM. The summer weekend food distributions are currently scheduled for July 17, July 31, August 14, August 28, September 11, and September 25.

Cora Kelly has both drive-through and walk-up services. NOVA is drive-through service only. William Ramsay is walk-up service only.

Drive-through service:

  • Cora Kelly Elementary School
  • NOVA Alexandria Campus

Walk-up service:

  • Cora Kelly Elementary School
  • William Ramsay Rec Center

People without personal vehicles are encouraged to use the walk-up service, and to bring carts or reusable bags to carry food home.

Pop-up food distributions will also increase this summer, in collaboration with community partners. ALIVE! will bring bags of food to specific neighborhoods or apartments in the parking lot at each pop-up location. Drive-through and walk-up service options vary by location. Visit the ALIVE! website at www.alive-inc.org or follow ALIVE! on social media for pop-up dates and times.

ALIVE! food distributions aim to supply 5-7 days’ worth of food to feed a family of 4. The ALIVE! Food Program, in general, works to provide nutritious foods through direct distribution to clients and by supporting Alexandria food pantries, meal kitchens, public schools, recreation centers, and community partners.

This summer’s ALIVE! food distributions are made possible thanks to grants from The Albertsons Foundation and No Kid Hungry, individual donors, and the City of Alexandria.
