Scouting for Food on November 12th
Each year, Alexandria-area Scouts go door to door to collect food donations for ALIVE! and other local food banks. Food drives like this are especially important during the holiday months when we see demand increase for food assistance.
If you have already received a flyer on your door about Scouting for Food, make sure to leave a bag of food donations at your doorsteps before 8:30am for pickup on November 12.
Food donations may also be dropped off at the ALIVE! Food Warehouse (801 S. Payne Street) Monday through Friday, 9am until 4pm (closing at 7 pm on Thursdays), and 9am until Noon on Saturdays.
Items in highest demand include (Please avoid donations in glass containers):
Canned protein (tuna, salmon, chicken, peanut butter)
Soups and stews (beef stew, chili, meat-based soups)
100% fruit juices (all sizes)
Grains (pasta, whole grain pasta, rice, brown rice, boxed macaroni and cheese)
Cereals (multi-grain, low sugar cereals, oatmeal)
Canned vegetables
Canned fruits
Condiments
Hygiene products (diapers, toilet paper, tissues, soap, toothpaste)
We will need volunteers to help sort and bag new food donations that come in through this huge food drive. Click the link below to sign up to help at the Bus Barn (116 S. Quaker Lane). Sorting and packing takes place Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays 9am-12pm and 1pm-4pm.
